About the EV charger tax credit, the honest update

You may have read about a federal 30 percent credit for a home EV charger. The timing matters. That credit expired for equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026, so an install finished after that date does not qualify. It is past, not something to count on now.

On the state side, there is no New York State or utility rebate that covers the cost of a residential home charger install. What does exist is National Grid's off peak billing plan, Charge Smart NY, which gives existing customers a monthly credit for charging overnight. That is a credit on your usage, not help with the install. We would rather tell you that straight than let you plan around a rebate that is not there. Permit, inspection, and doing it to code.
